Thank-You Messages for Customers: 6 Short Scripts for Your Shopify Store

A good thank-you message to a customer is short and specific: who you are, one real detail about what they bought, what happens next, and how to reach you. Spoken, that is 20 to 30 seconds. Written, it is two or three sentences. Below are six scripts for the moments that matter most, from a first order to a delayed shipment.

What makes a thank-you message feel real?

Four parts, in this order:

  1. Who you are: "Hi, it's Sam, I run the shop."
  2. One true detail: something about the product or how it is made.
  3. What happens next: when it ships, what to expect.
  4. A door: "Reply to your order email if anything is off."

Skip "Your order means the world to us." One concrete detail does more. And do not fake personal: a recorded note plays the same for every customer, so never pretend you are saying their name.

Script 1: The first order (thank-you page)

"Hi, it's [name], I'm the one who [makes / packs / picks] everything here. Thank you for your first order. We pack orders [days], so yours goes out by [day]. If anything arrives wrong, reply to your confirmation email and it comes straight to me."

Why it works: it answers what a new customer wonders right after paying. Is there a real person here? When does it ship?

Script 2: The repeat customer (customer account page)

"Hey, it's [name] again. If you're hearing this, you've ordered from us before, and that genuinely keeps a small shop like ours going. Thank you. If there's something you wish we made, reply to your order email. We read every one."

Why it works: repeat buyers do not need the pitch. They want to feel noticed.

Script 3: The holiday gift order (thank-you page, Nov to Dec)

"Hi, it's [name]. If this is a gift, thank you for trusting us with it. Our last day to ship for [holiday] delivery is [date]. If you need a gift note added, reply to your order email today and we'll tuck one in."

Why it works: gift buyers are anxious about timing. Give them the one date that matters and a simple way to fix the gift note.

Script 4: Shipping is slower than usual (order status page)

"Hi, it's [name]. Quick heads up: we're running about [X] days behind because [honest reason]. Your order is safe and in line. You'll get tracking the moment it ships. Thanks for your patience, it means a lot."

Why it works: the order status page is where worried customers go to check. Meeting them there with a plain update heads off "where is my order" emails.

Script 5: Out for delivery (delivery text)

"Hi, it's [name] from [shop]. Your order is out for delivery today. I hope it makes your week a little better. If anything is not right, just reply to your order email."

Why it works: it sounds like a person, not a carrier notification.

Script 6: After something went wrong

"Hi, it's [name]. I'm sorry about [the mix-up / the damaged item]. A replacement is on its way and should arrive by [date]. No need to send anything back. Thank you for telling us. It helps us fix it for the next person."

Why it works: own it, say the fix, remove the hassle. Keep it human, not legal.

How do you record one that doesn't sound stiff?

  • Read the script once, then say it in your own words.
  • Record somewhere quiet.
  • Keep it under 30 seconds.
  • One or two takes. Slightly imperfect sounds like a person.
  • Never read discount codes aloud. They get misheard and shared.

Where should each message go?

These scripts work in a packing slip note or an email, so you can use them without any app. If you want customers to hear your voice, DropVoice lets you record in your browser (or upload a file) and place a note on your product pages, checkout, thank-you page, order status and customer account pages. On the Winning plan and up, you can also send a delivery text that opens a listen page with your logo and colors.

You can set a listen-to-unlock reward too: listeners who reach your threshold get a real discount code, applied at checkout. Plans start at $10/month, delivery texts start on the $25 plan, and every plan has a 15-day free trial billed through Shopify. Add DropVoice to your store.

FAQ

How long should a thank-you voice message be?

20 to 30 seconds. Long enough for who you are, one detail, and what happens next.

Should I include a discount?

Only if it is a real thank-you, not a pitch. A listen-to-unlock reward works because people choose to hear you out first.

Who should record it?

Whoever customers would recognize: the maker, the founder, or the person who packs orders.
